Anne was born in Frankfurt, Germany in the year 1929. Her parents were Otto and Edith Frank. When situation in Germany became difficult under Hitler and the antisemitic atmosphere, they moved to Amsterdam, Netherland.

Anne’s Father set up a pectin, herbs and other spices selling business in Amsterdam. Even as they were coming out of the poor situation, Hitler invaded Netherland. The German army began to take Jewish people away from Dutch cities to Auschwitz. Due to the anti Jewish (anti-semitism) approach of Germany under Hitler, Jews were either put into concentration camps (labor camps) or they were exterminated.

Google Doodle Girl Anne Frank Began to Write a Diary

Anne Frank’s father Otto had prepared a secret hiding place for his family and few others to escape the Nazis. They moved into that small building which was located in her father’s office building. There Anne began to write her thoughts into a diary. She wrote about the day to day happenings in the little annexe. Her thoughts about life and her reflections on what was happening around her.

She also wrote short stories and started a novel. She also copied passages from books that she read during the time. Writing diary helped her pass the time.

But on August 4, 1944 the annexe was stormed by the Nazi police and they were taken to Auschwitz. From there they were further splitted into various other labor camps. Everybody except Anne’s father died in the camps. She and her sister died in Bergen Belsen.
